Sekhmet - Framed Original Lioness Painting

Sekhmet, translating as “she who is powerful”, was an Egyptian warrior goddess. Legend has it she was born from the fire of the sun god Ra’s eye and she would go on to destroy his enemies, thus becoming the goddess of the sun. She was depicted as a lioness, often with a solar disc. I chose not to paint my lioness with the disk, but with the rays from the sun, painted in shimmering gold-bronze coloured acrylic which contrasts with the cool aqua background.
